Monday-Tuesday:

Topics:  Researching Careers

Activities:  Students to research 3 careers of interest using the Occupational Outlook Handbook online (www.bls.gov/ooh/) and answer questions on the provided guide.  One career choice must be chosen from one of the student’s preferred DISC categories from Friday; may choose other 2. Completed research due at the first of class Wednesday.

Wednesday-

Topics:  Goal Setting

Activities:  Video 2.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.   What is a recent goal that you have set for yourself?  What did you do to make reaching that goal a success?  2.  How can you make your goals clear and actionable?  3.  What’s the best way to go bout achieving long-term goals?  4.  What does it mean to write goals in the positive, not the negative?   Refer to sidebar on p. 233/ read and discuss.

Thursday-

Topics:  understand the value of entry level jobs; identify valuable work attributes outside of your general skill set; resumes; interview process

Activities:  Video 3.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  What are some valuable attributes that you can acquire from your pre-career jobs?  2.  Describe a work experience that has helped you develop valuable career attributes such as a strong work ethic, respect, commitment, etc. 3.  What is the average income of college graduates who find a job in their degree field?  What about for those who don’t find a job in their field?  Refer to sidebar on p. 234.  Read and discuss.  Introduce next section (Best practices of successful people) Video 4.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion question:  1.  What are some common traits of successful people?

Friday-

Topics:  Mentoring

Activities:  Video 4.2, no note-fill-ins, answer journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  Describe someone you consider to be a success.  What qualities make this person seem successful?  Refer to sidebar on p. 237.  Read/ Discuss.  2.  What are the keys in making mentorship a real benefit?  Activity:  Find a mentor.  If don’t finish in class, for homework.  Due by the first of class Monday.

Activities: Discuss learning objectives for section 1; students to do measure your progress; video 1.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  What are some important things to focus on when choosing a career? 2.  What are some good ways to find out if a career is right for you? 3.  What are some of your personal strengths and weaknesses?  Video 1.2, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  What is Jon’s advice for dealing with your “negative voices”? 2.  What is personal branding?

 

Wednesday-

Topics:  DISC and Career match

Activities:  Video 1.3, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  Marcus Buckingham says that just being good at something alone does not make it a strength.  You also must have what?  2.  Based on the DISC Personality Profile, what attributes does a person with a “stabilizing” characteristics have?  Students will complete DISC profile survey on computer. Discuss.

Topics:  Ch. 10 Test results

Activities:  Students to receive back graded tests; discuss; students to then correct questions missed on test as needed.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Students to get familiar with Ch. 11 vocabulary

Activities:  Students to define the vocabulary for Ch. 11 onto notebook paper using their book in Google drive.

Wednesday-

Progress reports/ Makeup work as needed

Thursday-

Makeup work as needed or bring something to work on

Monday-

Topics:  Review of Chapter Material

Activities:  Students to complete the Ch. 10 Money in Review using their notes.  If don’t finish in class, for homework.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Review of chapter material

Activities:  Ch. 10 money in Review due.  Students to then participate in Kahoot to review chapter topics. Students with top 5 scores on game will receive 5 bonus points on test. **Test on Thursday**

Wednesday-

Sub- Students to work on any missing work from Ch. 10 as needed.

Thursday-

Test- Ch. 10 Test- Money and Relationships

Friday-

Topics: Test results

Activities:  Students will receive back their graded Ch. 10 Tests; discuss; students to then correct questions missed on test on a sheet of notebook paper.
