Topics:  Protecting your wealth

Activities:  Discuss Learning Outcomes for section 1; students to read and answer the questions on “Measure your Progress” as well as journal question before watching video; Students to watch Video 1.1, fill in note-blanks & journal question; Discussion Questions:  1.  Explain the role of insurance in your financial plan?  2.  Why is it important to understand that insurance is a financial product?  3.  If you have a full emergency fund, what is the best way to keep your premiums down? 4.  What is a deductible? (see sidebar on p. 190)

Tuesday-

Topics:  Basic Types of Coverage

Activities:  Discuss learning outcomes for section 2; students to watch Video 2.1, fill in note-blanks and journal question; Discussion Questions:  1.  What is the purpose of liability insurance protection?  2.  why do you need comprehensive coverage on your vehicle in addition to collision?  3.  What are some things that you can do to get a good deal on car insurance as a teen driver?  **Refer to p. 193 “Top things to know about auto insurance”.  Read and discuss.  Also refer to p. 191 “Need another reason to pay cash for your car?”.  Read then discuss.  Activity:  Auto Liability Limits

Activities:  Review yesterday’s topics; Discussion questions:  1.  What does a homeowner’s policy protect you against?  Refer students to sidebar on p. 194/ Discuss; Activity:  Understanding Renter’s insurance

Thursday-

Topics:  Health insurance

Activities:  Students to watch Video 2.2,  fill-in note blanks and answer journal question; Discuss new material; Activity:  Health Plan overview

Friday-

Topics:  Long-term Insurance, disability and Identity theft protection

Activities:  Health Plan overview due/ Discuss;  Video 2.3, fill in note-blanks and journal question; Discussion Questions:  1.  What is the purpose of long-term care insurance?  2.  At what stage of life (what age) is long-term care insurance recommended?   Watch video 2.4, fill in note-blanks and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  What is the purpose of disability insurance?  2.  Your disability coverage should be for ________?  3.  What is the most affordable way to get disability insurance?  4.  What is the purpose of identity theft protection?  Assignment:  Students will test their “phishing IQ” by going to foundationsU.com/Phish.  Complete test; review incorrect answers and write down what clue they missed in identifying the fraudulent email.

Topics:  Review of Ch. 8 material (Investing and Retirement)

Activities:  Students will participate in a test review game. Top two scorers at end of game will receive 5 bonus points on test.

Wednesday-

Topic/Activity:  Ch. 8 Test (Investing and Retirement)

Thursday-

Topics:  Test results; questions about test

Activities:  Students will receive back their test results, then make test corrections.

Friday-

Topics:  Become familiar with new vocabulary

Activities:  Students to define the vocabulary for Ch. 9 using book in Google drive.  Due by the end of class.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Review information covered last week while I was gone

  • Go over: “Reading a prospectus” worksheet
  • Discuss: Qualified plans, annuities, real estate, stock market
  • Go over: “Name that Investment” worksheet
  • Discuss:  Employer Benefits and Retirement Plans

Wednesday-

Topics: Funding 401k’s and Roth IRA’s

Activities:  Go through several sample problems, then students will complete the Funding 401k’s and Roth IRA’s worksheet given the information provided.  If don’t finish in class, for homework. Due by the first of class Thursday.

Thursday-

Topics:  Review of Ch. 8 material (Investing and Retirement)

Activities:  Will spend a few minutes going over yesterday’s work (Funding 401k’s…) Students will then complete the Ch. 8 Money in Review using their notes and vocabulary.  If don’t finish in class for homework.  Due by the first of class Friday.
