Lesson Plans for May 8-12, 2017

Monday-

Topics:  Interview practice

Activities:  Students will read list of popular interview questions and jot down ideas on how they would respond.

Tuesday-

Topics:  Interview practice

Students will then work with a partner to conduct a mock interview.  One person will be the employer asking the questions; the other will be the potential employee answering the questions.  During the mock interview, the person asking the interview questions should take notes and give feedback to his or her partner.  They will then switch roles and repeat the process.

Wednesday-

Topics:  Interviewing

Activities:  We will discuss how yesterday’s mock interviews.  Will also discuss any questions that are not legal to be asked and how to handle situations if they are.  Will go back over dressing for interview and other interview tips.  Mock interviews with members of the community will be held during their class time tomorrow. Students will need to come dressed and prepared for the interviews.

Thursday-

Activities:  Mock Interviews

Friday-

Topics:  Interview follow up

Activities:  We’ll discuss what went well and maybe not so well in their mock interviews.  Discuss areas of improvement, etc.  Time will also be given for students to write a brief thank you note to their interviewer.

Monday-Tuesday

Topics:  Job Search and Resume Basics

Activities:  Video 4.3, note fill- ins, journal question;  Discussion questions:  1. What are two important factors to remember when job hunting? 2. According to your notes, what are the steps in applying for a job?  Refer to sample resume on p. 239/ Discuss.  Refer to “Tips for filling out a Job Application”/Discuss.  Students to create their own resume.  Can use sample as a guide or can use one of the resume templates from Word.  Type resume in Word, print, and save as Resume on flash drive.  Due by the end of class Tuesday.

Wednesday-

Topics:  changes needed to resume

Activities:  Students will receive back their resumes with suggestions or changes marked.  Students will then make suggested changes, resave if necessary, reprint and turn back in for final draft.

Thursday-

Testing- US History EOC  (nothing new will be taught today)

Friday

Topics:  Interviewing

Activities:  Video 4.4, note fill-ins, journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  Someone summarize or give me a piece of Dave’s advice as to how you should present yourself during an interview.  2.  What are some other things that you could keep in mind for an interview?  Refer to bottom of p. 240 “How to Land a Job without any experience”/ Discuss.  Refer to sidebar on p. 240 “10 Career Fields likely to flourish in 2020″/Discuss.  Activity:  Interview practice.  Homework:  Students to study Interview Tips and interview questions and prepare their answers to some common interview questions.  Will need to be ready for a mock interview on Monday of next week during their class period.
