Activities:  Students to research 3 careers of interest using the Occupational Outlook Handbook online (www.bls.gov/ooh/) and answer questions on the provided guide.  One career choice must be chosen from one of student’s preferred DISC categories from Friday; may choose other 2

Thursday-

Topics:  Goal Setting

Activities:  Video 2.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.   What is a recent goal that you have set for yourself?  What did you do to make reaching that goal a success?  2.  How can you make your goals clear and actionable?  3.  What’s the best way to go bout achieving long-term goals?  4.  What does it mean to write goals in the positive, not the negative?   Refer to sidebar on p. 233/ read and discuss.

Friday-

Topics:  understand the value of entry level jobs; identify valuable work attributes outside of your general skill set; resumes; interview process

Activities:  Video 3.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion questions:  1.  What are some valuable attributes that you can acquire from your pre-career jobs?  2.  Describe a work experience that has helped you develop valuable career attributes such as a strong work ethic, respect, commitment, etc. 3.  What is the average income of college graduates who find a job in their degree field?  What about for those who don’t find a job in their field?  Refer to sidebar on p. 234.  Read and discuss.  Introduce next section (Best practices of successful people) Video 4.1, note fill-ins and journal question; Discussion question:  1.  What are some common traits of successful people?
